Gas Salesman


Responsible for sale and delivery of propane gas to domestic, industrial, agricultural customers. These responsibilities include overseeing that the customer account is properly serviced and that the bill is subsequently paid. A Gas Salesman is responsible for maintaining existing customers and adding new customers.

Responsible for direct communication with customers, properly routing his customers, and follow up on all customer requests and/or complaints.

Employee must be at least 21 years of age and have, or obtain within ninety ( 90 ) days, a valid Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) with a Hazardous Material Endorsement. Employee is also required to be licensed and certified by the State LP Gas Commission.

Machines, Tools & Equipment:

Employee must able to operate a bobtail delivery truck in adverse weather conditions and is required to enter and exit the cab of the truck up to 60 times or more per day. Cab entry and exit is made by two (2) steps on the truck. During peak seasons this can result in the employee having to work up to 12 hours per day.

Worker Traits:

Employee must have the physical ability to pull a propane delivery hose up to 125 feet with a pull weight of 70 to 90 lbs. with adequate coordination and agility. Employee must be able to work from a squatting or overhead position with multiple wrenches for periods of 10 minutes or more at one time.

Verbal ability to communicate effectively with customers, both in selling gas, collecting money from prior sales, and resolving any customer complaints or disputes.

Numerical ability to prepare activity reports, properly account for all cash payments received, and to reconcile sales tickets with truck meter readings.

Temperaments:

Employee must have the ability to plan daily routes, and to always be looking for potential customers. Tact is required to deal effectively with customers and other employees. Clear thinking and mental concentration is required in the handling hazardous materials.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Job requires lifting and bending. All of our delivery calls are at the customer's residence or place of business, which requires driving, riding in a vehicle and frequently getting in and out of a Bobtail Delivery Truck.

Hazards:

Employee will be working with liquefied petroleum gas ( propane ) which is classified as a hazardous material. The propane industry is regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Fire Prevention Association ( NFPA ) regulations, as recorded in the code of the Federal Register ( NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 ).
